Students' Union

Lancaster University Student Union exists to provide quality representation, advice, services, and student activities, with Union policy and direction decided democratically by students.

The Student Union at Lancaster is one of the strongest in the country. It manages and funds around 100 different student clubs and societies. It also operates highly qualified centres for academic and welfare advice. The colleges also run huge events such as Christmas Balls and the extravaganza college parties at the end of the year.

Student clubs and societies

This area of LUSU provides many opportunities for students to identify, develop and extend their transferable skills and participate in a range of activities that meet a variety of interests. There are over 100 clubs and societies to join.

Social activities and inter-college events

The colleges provide an excellent social life for students. Each college's student committee (JCR Executive) organises several socials throughout the year including live bands, theme nights, quizzes, karaoke. They also organize trips to clubs in nearby Liverpool, Manchester and other big cities as well as a wide variety of other entertainment options. Every college has its own social space with pool tables, games machines and much more. Most have big screen satellite TVs and many have their own computer rooms. Some also have their own Coffee Shop. Every college has a bar, which frequently forms the centre of social activities.

Sport at Lancaster

Sport plays a prominent role in life at Lancaster and the opportunities to take up a sport are excellent. The University Sport's Centre is conveniently located on campus.

Inter-College sport

Inter-college sport is one of the great sources of college loyalty. Played in a spirit of friendly competition, it could not exist without the colleges. So whether you're a sporting superstar or just want some fun, you can still take part in college sports. Covering a vast range of sports, colleges select teams to compete for the Carter Shield. Specific tournaments for football, netball and bar sports are added together with results from one-day competitions in almost every sport imaginable.
