Information Systems services Central computing facilities at Lancaster are provided by Information Systems Services (ISS). ISS looks after central computer hardware, software and the campus network. It also provides an extensive range of IT support and training. All students have computer accounts which provide them with a Lancaster University email address, file storage space, high quality printing and personal web space. All student residences and PC labs are connected to the campus network. A secure production wireless campus network service covers the Library and other key areas of campus. Student residences network Students living on campus can connect their own computers to the campus network. There is an annual connection charge which goes towards the installation and maintenance costs of the network. There are no additional costs relating to time spent on line. Access to network resources on campus includes University email accounts, printers, central filestore, the central Unix service, news server and personal web space, as well as to the internet. Help and support ISS provides Reception and Help Desks to answer all kinds of IT queries. Specialised support staff are available to deal with technical enquiries and help to integrate the use of IT into the learning process. University library The Library is at the centre of the campus, in Alexandra Square, and has extensive opening hours during both term and vacation periods. See http://libweb.lancs.ac.uk/open.htm for details. It has nearly a million items and offers access to more than 15,000 journals, mainly in electronic form. There are 960 reader places in the Library and 140 computer workstations. Facilities include self-service photocopiers (including colour), replay facilities for video, DVD and audio materials, a PC with large monitor and voice recognition, a Tieman colour reader and a Kurzweil Personal Reader. Guides to the Library's services and collections are available both in printed form and via the Library's web pages. Helpful and Supportive Library Staff The staff at the Enquiry and Information Desks will help undergraduate students to use its collections, services and information resources. In addition, a team of librarians is available to help with specialised enquiries in your specific subject. They can also guide you to relevant information sources in this Library and elsewhere, and advise you how to make the best use of the Library.
