Lancaster University International Study CentreHelp and support on campusDedicated support While studying the International Foundation Year, you will have automatic access to a full range of student counselling and support services at the International Study Centre. The team of student advisors at the ISC are there to help with any personal, financial or academic difficulties you might have. They will help you settle in quickly during your first few days and will be available throughout your studies. When you move into your undergraduate studies, your support continues. Lancaster University has a strong support network which aims to help all students to make the most of their time at the University. International student advisory service The central administrative officer with special responsibility for providing guidance, advice and support to international students and organising events and social trips is Jennifer Raper, in the Student Support Office. Counselling service The Counselling Service offers a confidential, professional service to any member of the University who might need help or support with any personal, social, family or academic problems. All seven of our counsellors have relevant professional qualifications and considerable counselling experience. Disabilities service Lancaster University welcomes applications from students with disabilities. The Disabilities Service provides support for students with disabilities, dyslexia and other support needs throughout their student life at Lancaster. We provide advice to students and departments on support resources available, such as personal care assistance, adapted accommodation, student funding applications, assessment and support for dyslexia and technical needs, adapted examination arrangements and assistance at graduation ceremonies. Health services All students of the University are required to register with a local general medical practice. There is a Practice based on campus which provides NHS services for students and staff who register. A full range of services is provided via the Practice and referral to specialist consultants is available for serious cases. The medical practice includes male and female doctors. The University Nurse Unit The Nurse Unit provides a confidential service to all students, visitors and staff on campus, and is open 2 hours during term-time. The experienced nursing team can offer advice on a wide range of health-related matters from healthy lifestyles through to specific medical conditions. The Unit also has two in-patient beds for those suffering acute minor illnesses who would not otherwise be able to cope on their own. Dental clinic The dental clinic is located in premises adjacent to Bailrigg House. The clinic offers private treatment, and is BUPA-accredited. Facilities for Religious worship The Chaplaincy Centre is an independent body within the University and contains a Catholic chapel and an Anglican and Free Church chapel. The Jewish community has its own rooms including a kosher kitchen and a synagogue room. The Centre is also used for worship by the Society of Friends and for meditation by Buddhist and other groups. A large Prayer Room, with all facilities, is available for the Muslim community in Grizedale College.
