University of Stirling International Study Centre

Help and support on campus

All Undergraduate Certificate students will be fully supported by the dedicated staff within the International Study Centre. As they progress onto their degree course, the high levels of support they receive will be maintained by the University’s Student Support Services team.

Support at the International Study Centre

While studying on the Undergraduate Certificate students will have automatic access to a full range of student counselling and support services available at the International Study Centre. The team of student advisers at the ISC are there to help with any personal, financial or academic difficulties students might have.

They will help students to settle in quickly during their first few days and will be available throughout their studies.

When students move into the second year of their undergraduate studies, their support continues. The University of Stirling has a strong support network, providing a range of services designed to enhance student experience and to prepare for life after graduation.

International & Study Abroad Office

The University’s International and Study Abroad Office (ISAO) is responsible for promoting the University overseas, and each year is delighted to welcome students to Stirling from all over the world. From the day they begin their Undergraduate Certificate programme all students will become valued members of Stirling’s wider student community, and the ISAO team will work closely with staff at the International Study Centre to ensure that their time with us is as rewarding and enjoyable as possible.

Our staff have considerable experience in advising international students on our degree programmes and all aspects of life at Stirling. During the Undergraduate Certificate year students will be supported by the staff of the International Study Centre, however they are also welcome to contact the ISAO at any time, should they require information or assistance from us. Once they progress into their chosen degree programme, the University’s International Student Adviser (who works in the ISAO office) will be available to offer advice and support on any academic or personal issues throughout the rest of the students time at the University.

INFORMATION AND ADVICE

Disability Information and Guidance

The University provides a range of services for students with disabilities with the aim of enabling full participation in university life. Many students with disabilities are successfully undertaking courses at Stirling.

Counselling and Well-being

Counselling is a free and confidential service offered by the Student Support Services team. It provides students with the opportunity to talk in private about anything that might affect their ability to study effectively.

Stirling University Students’ Association ( SUSA)

The University’s Students’ Association (SUSA) also offers its own welfare service, including Nightline, a confidential listening and information service. The majority of people working for SUSA are students themselves and so they know from personal experience, the questions or problems that can arise from time to time.

Health Services

Full-time students are entitled to free medical and dental treatment under the National Health Service. During their time at University, it is recommended that students register with a local doctor. There is a General Medical Practice located in the Medical Centre on campus, as well as a Dental Centre.

Fresh Talent Initiative

‘Fresh Talent’ is a Scottish Executive initiative to attract talented people to live, study and work in Scotland. All international students who graduate from a Scottish university with an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, or Higher National Diploma (HND), are able to apply to stay on and work in the country for an additional two years without the need for a work permit. Through the work of Student Support Services, the Career Development entre and the International and Study Abroad Office the University hopes to offer all the support you need to apply for Fresh Talent and to apply for jobs thereafter.
