University of Stirling International Study Centre

The University of STIRLING

Founded in 1967, the University of Stirling blends the best of Scotland’s internationally respected educational heritage with the philosophy and structures of the American liberal arts system. The University has a strong academic reputation, provides an exceptional range of facilities and offers a high quality of student life. In short, it is the ideal British university for international students.

Facts and figures

  • 9,000 students
  • 7,000 undergraduate students
  • 2,000 postgraduate students
  • 15% from overseas
  • 80 nationalities represented on campus

Ten reasons to make the University of Stirling your first choice:

1. A First-Class Education

The University has a strong reputation for the quality of its degree programmes. Half of our academic departments are rated top in Scotland for research, and overall Stirling is in the top 20 in the UK for Teaching Assessment.

Varied methods of assessment are used in all courses, ensuring that teaching is student-focused, developing a range of skills which are highly valuable in the modern workplace.

2. Excellent Career Opportunities

Graduate employment rates are consistently high: the University was recently rated 3 rd in the UK for graduate employability. The Fresh Talent Initiative provides help to students wanting to develop their career in Scotland after graduation.

3. Superb Environment

“Traditionally one of Scotland’s top universities, Stirling’s campus is located in 310 acres of stunning countryside. Where else can you study on the shores of a loch, by an 18 th-century castle, beneath rolling hills?” (The Guardian newspaper, 2003). As a bonus, the city of Stirling is only a ten-minute bus ride from the campus, and the cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow can be reached in under one hour.

4. An International Place of Learning

Stirling is proud of its diverse international community and extends a warm welcome to students from all countries and of all nationalities. There are currently students and staff from 80 countries living and working together on campus.

5. Friendly Atmosphere

Many students comment on the friendly atmosphere when they visit the University. As a medium-sized, campus-based University, with many students living on site, Stirling has a strong community feel.

6. Guaranteed Accommodation

All international students at Stirling are guaranteed a place in University-managed accommodation throughout their studies. During their first year they will be located in one of the campus Halls of Residence; living together with other students of the University, just a few minutes on foot from all campus facilities, they will quickly make friends and feel at home.

7. Advanced Information Technology

Wireless hubs are located around the campus, and most study bedrooms are networked, so students can connect to the University’s high-speed network and, throughout their degree programme, can access all the University services (e.g. library catalogue, course notes, printers and filestore and the internet). There is also a student PC support service, for help in connecting to the network.

8. Excellent Support Network

From the moment students arrive on campus we want them to feel a valued and supported member of the University community. The team at the International Study Centre, and the wider University staff are dedicated to providing students with any assistance, information or advice they need to ensure that their time at Stirling is happy and productive.

9. Great for Sport

Stirling is one of the leading universities in the UK for sport. The campus has some of the finest sports facilities on a single site in the country, including the National Swimming Academy and the Gannochy National Tennis Centre. The campus is also home to the Scottish Institute of Sport and the Commonwealth Games Council for Scotland.

10. Nightlife

A range of venues provides a social focus for the University. Socialise in Glow, the campus nightclub, or relax and unwind in the Studio bar. In the centre of Stirling there is a wide selection of dining and entertainment venues; everything you would expect in a vibrant, modern city.
